What Is SSL / HTTPS?

You've probably seen the padlock icon in your browser's address bar. That's SSL/HTTPS, and it keeps your website secure. Here's what it means.

SSL secures the connection

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is the technology that encrypts the connection between a visitor's browser and your website. That means any data sent — like a form or login — is scrambled so it can't be read by others.

HTTPS is just the secure version of web traffic, identified by the padlock and https:// at the start of your address.

Why it matters

  • Trust — visitors see the padlock and know your site is safe.
  • No "not secure" warning — without SSL, browsers flag your site as "not secure," which scares people away.
  • Search ranking — Google favors secure sites.

How to get it

SSL is included free on every Blue Nebula Hosting site. See Secure your site (SSL) to turn it on.

If it's not working

If you see a "not secure" warning or the padlock is missing, see SSL not working — it's usually a quick fix.

The short version

SSL makes your site secure and trustworthy. It's included with your hosting, so there's no extra cost — just make sure it's enabled.

Get the padlock: see Secure your site (SSL). Or if it's showing an error, see SSL not working.
