Point Your Domain¶
When you buy a domain (from us or anywhere else), you need to tell it where your website lives. That's called "pointing" it. Here's how.
What you need¶
- The nameservers or IP address you've been given by Blue Nebula Hosting
- Access to wherever your domain is registered (your domain registrar)
- Your control panel login
Two ways to point a domain¶
- Nameservers — the simplest, and what most customers use. You set the domain's nameservers to ours, and we handle the rest.
- A-record / IP address — you point just the domain at our server's IP. Good if you keep your email with another provider.
Step 1 — Find your nameservers¶
Log in to your control panel, go to Web, and check your domain's details for the nameserver addresses. (If you added the site here, they're usually shown automatically.)
Step 2 — Update them at your registrar¶
- Log in to your domain registrar, where you bought the domain.
- Find the DNS or Nameservers settings for that domain.
- Replace the existing nameservers with the ones we gave you.
- Save.
Step 3 — Wait for it to spread¶
These changes can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24–48 hours to take effect worldwide. This is normal and called "propagation."
How do I know it's working? Once it's live, visiting your domain shows your website. If it's not working after 48 hours, contact support.
A note on email: If your domain's email is hosted with us, updating the domain's nameservers keeps email working too. If your email is elsewhere, use the A-record / IP method instead.
