Use a Subdomain

A subdomain is an extra prefix on your domain, like blog.yourdomain.com or store.yourdomain.com. It's a clean way to host a separate part of your site without buying a new domain.

Common uses

  • blog.yourdomain.com — a blog
  • shop.yourdomain.com — an online store
  • support.yourdomain.com — a help page
  • app.yourdomain.com — a web app or login

Add a subdomain in your control panel

  1. Log in to your control panel and go to Web.
  2. Look for an option to Add Web Domain or Add Subdomain (the exact wording may vary).
  3. Enter the subdomain (for example blog) and choose the parent domain (yourdomain.com).
  4. Save.

What happens next

The subdomain gets its own folder and can be set up as its own website, while the main domain stays as it is. You can point a subdomain at a different service too, using a DNS record — see Manage DNS records.

Subdomain vs. addon domain: A subdomain lives under your main domain (blog.example.com). An addon domain is a completely separate domain hosted on the same account. For most customers, a subdomain is what they want.
