Cancel a Service¶
If you no longer need a hosting service or a domain, you can cancel it from your account area. Before you do, here's what to know so you don't lose anything you'll want later.
Before you cancel¶
- Back up everything you want to keep. Once a service is cancelled, its data (files, databases, email) is not returned to you. Download whatever you need first — see Backups.
- Check your billing cycle. There are generally no refunds for cancelling partway through a paid period (see our Refund Policy).
- If you're moving hosts, finish the switch at the new host first — see Move your site from another host.
Important: cancellation removes your data. It's usually not possible to get it back, so back up first.
How to cancel a service¶
- Log in to your account area.
- Go to Services and find the service you want to cancel.
- Choose to cancel it. You may be asked to confirm and to select a reason.
- Your service is scheduled for cancellation at the end of its paid term, or immediately depending on the type.
Cancelling vs. letting it expire¶
- Cancelling stops the service and stops future billing — sometimes immediately.
- Letting it lapse means the service stops when the paid period ends and isn't renewed.
Both end the service; cancel actively if you want to stop renewal billing right away.
What about domains?¶
Cancelling a domain transfers it out of your account. If you want to keep the domain but stop the hosting, don't cancel the domain — see Transfer a domain to move it elsewhere, or keep it in your account to use later.
