Use Your Own Domain¶
Email Hosting uses your own domain for your address — like you@yourbusiness.com. For the service to send and receive mail for that domain, your domain needs to point its mail records to us.
The short version¶
You add a few DNS records at your domain registrar (where you bought the domain) that tell the internet "mail for this domain lives at Blue Nebula Hosting." Once those records are live, email for your domain is delivered to your Email Hosting mailbox.
This is about email only. Your website (if you have one) keeps working exactly as it does now. Pointing email records doesn't move your website.
What records you add¶
For email you'll need two things:
- MX records — these tell the internet where to deliver your email. Usually one or two, pointing to our mail servers.
- SPF record — a TXT record that says which servers are allowed to send as your domain. This keeps your email from going to spam.
If you use authenticated sending tools, you may also add DKIM and DMARC records. See Email deliverability for what those do.
If your domain is hosted with us¶
If you already host your website with us, your domain's DNS may be managed in your control panel. You can add the email records there — see Manage DNS records.
If your domain is elsewhere¶
If your domain is registered or hosted with another company, log in to that provider and find the DNS or Zone editor. Add the MX, SPF (and any DKIM/DMARC) records exactly as shown in your Email Hosting setup guide.
After you add the records¶
- Changes can take from a few minutes to 48 hours to spread.
- Once they're live, email for your domain is delivered to your Email Hosting mailbox.
- Test it by sending to your new address and seeing it arrive.
