Strong Passwords

A strong password is the single most important thing protecting your account. Here's how to make ones that are genuinely hard to guess.

The basics

  • Long is better than clever. A long passphrase beats a short, complicated one.
  • Use a mix of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Don't use real words, names, or dates that someone could guess about you.
  • Never reuse a password across accounts. A leak in one place shouldn't expose everything.

The passphrase approach

Instead of P@ssw0rd!, build a phrase you can remember but nobody can guess:

Coffee-Time-Sunset-42!

Combine a few unrelated words, a number, and a symbol. It's long, memorable, and hard to crack.

Use a password manager

The easiest way to have strong, unique passwords everywhere is a password manager. It stores your passwords securely and remembers them for you. Popular options include Bitwarden, 1Password, and KeePass.

Where your password matters most

  • Your email address
  • Your Blue Nebula Hosting account area
  • Your control panel
  • Any account that can reset other accounts (like your main email)

Tip: Whenever you create a mailbox, database, or account in the control panel, it will tell you the password rules it wants you to follow (for example, 8+ characters with upper/lowercase and a number). Follow them.
