Keep Your Website Safe¶
A secure website protects your visitors and your business. Most security issues come from a handful of common mistakes — avoid them and you're ahead of most people.
The essentials¶
- Keep everything updated. If you run WordPress, update the core, themes, and plugins. Outdated software is the number one way sites get compromised.
- Use strong, unique passwords for your site admin and hosting logins — see Strong passwords.
- Regular backups mean you can recover. If anything goes wrong, a recent backup lets us restore you fast.
If you use WordPress¶
WordPress is popular, which makes it a target. Good habits:
- Update WordPress, themes, and plugins regularly
- Remove plugins and themes you're not using
- Use a security plugin if you want extra protection
- Enable two-factor authentication on your WordPress admin login
Spotting a problem¶
Look out for:
- Unexpected changes to your site content or look
- Slow performance out of nowhere
- Emails to your admin asking for credentials
If you suspect your site is compromised, contact support right away — the sooner we act, the easier it is to fix.
The good news: With a recent backup and our support team, most compromised sites can be restored quickly.
