Register a Domain

Your domain is your website's address — like yourbusiness.com. If you don't have one yet, you can register it through Blue Nebula Hosting. Here's how it works.

What you need

  • A name you want (try to keep it short, memorable, and relevant to what you do).
  • Your contact details (the registrar needs these to keep the registration record up to date).
  • A way to pay — domains are registered for a year at a time and renew annually.

How to check if a name is available

When you go to register a domain, you'll type the name you want and see if it's free. If someone already registered it, you'll see suggestions or you can try a variation (a different ending like .net or .com, or a slightly different name).

How to register

  1. Go to the Blue Nebula Hosting website and choose Domains (or Register a domain).
  2. Search for the name you want.
  3. If it's available, add it to your order.
  4. Choose your terms — usually one year, but you can often lock in a price for up to a few years.
  5. Confirm your contact details and complete the order. Include a valid email — that's where renewal and expiry notices go.

Once it's registered, the domain is yours to use immediately.

What to do after you register

The ending (.com, .net, .org, etc.)

The last part of the domain is the "ending," called the top-level domain. .com is the most common and trusted, but there are many options. Most small businesses do well with a .com or .net if available.

Important: keep it renewed

Domains are not owned forever — you register one for a set period (usually a year) and must renew it to keep it. See Renew a domain for how to make sure you never lose it. If a domain expires, someone else can register it.

Tip: register the domain for as long as you can afford upfront, and make sure the contact email is one you check. That's how you'll be alerted before it expires.
